2018 july 20
On the Navy Day celebrated on the last Sunday in July, the memorial sign “Triumph of the Russian Navy” will be ceremonially unveiled in the center of Kronshtadt. Its installation is timed to coincide with several important dates in Russian history at once: 330 years from the day of discovery of the small boat St. Nicholas by young Peter I, and 295 years from the day of founding the Kronshtadt Fortress and from the day of the first naval parade featuring the Small Boat. The installation of the memorial sign was initiated by the Women’s Orthodox Patriotic Society, with the Setl Group holding, Government of St. Petersburg, City Governor Georgiy Poltavchenko, Russia’s Ministry of Culture, and Russian Academy of Arts as the project sponsors. The sign is intended to be installed at Anchor Square, southeast of the Naval Cathedral’s park, at No. 3. The bronze sign is designed in classical rectangular shapes, decorated with military heraldry elements and the arms of Kronshtadt. The main façade is a monumental panel titled “Triumph of the Russian Navy” by People’s Artist V. I. Nesterenko, in a mosaic technique. The panel shows the first naval parade in Kronshtadt held in honor of the creation of the Russian Navy. The sculptor is RF People’s Artist Salavat Scherbakov.
